Brookline to Vote on Conservation Easement

with No Comments

Continuing the partnership that began with 2017’s Nissitissit land conservation project, the Town of Brookline and PLC are working to place a conservation easement on 439 acres of existing town conservation land known as Hobart-Fessenden Woods. An article authorizing the town’s donation of the easement to PLC has been placed on the town’s March warrant with the unanimous support of Brookline’s Board of Selectmen.

A Winter’s Worth of Walks

The cold and snow is here, and PLC is offering a series of outings to get you outdoors and enjoying the beauty of our region this winter. In January we’ll lead a combination snowshoe / cross-country ski tour of our 330-acre Florence Tarr Wildlife Sanctuary in Bedford and Goffstown. Later in the month PLC and the Dunbarton Conservation Commission will lead a guided walk at the town’s 123-acre Kuncanowet Natural Area, which is also protected by a PLC conservation easement.

Please Make A Year-End Gift to PLC

Since our founding in 1970, the Piscataquog Land Conservancy has been a community of friends and neighbors working together to protect land, water and wildlife in our corner of southern New Hampshire.  PLC is working on new land conservation projects right now that could protect more than 700 acres just in the next year, and we need your help to succeed. PLC’s modest budget is funded almost entirely by the private contributions of individuals, families and businesses in our watershed communities.

The Rose Mountain Rumble Rides Again

with No Comments

On August 25th one hundred fifty cyclists from our region and around New England rode in PLC’s fourth-annual Rose Mountain Rumble benefit ride. This was the first year we capped the number of riders, and we hit our limit! To everyone who came out to ride, in many cases for the second or third time, THANK YOU!

The Piscataquog Land Conservancy completed its 2018 fiscal year on June 30, and we are happy to report that it was another very productive year for our local land trust. We conserved four new properties totaling 133 acres plus built trails, lead public walks, paddles, rides and so much more. To read all that PLC has accomplished this year, please click “read more”.

Local artist and naturalist Rosemary Conroy will be hosting her 13th annual open studio in Weare on Saturday and Sunday October 20 & 21 from noon to 4 pm each day. Rosemary, a long-time member as well as a former trustee, will once again be donating a percentage of her proceeds to the PLC. Her colorful paintings feature many local birds and animals, as well as recent forays into “charismatic megafauna” from the sea. In addition to original works of art, Rosemary will have on hand affordable reproductions and notecards.

It’s Lobster Time!

Spend the evening of Labor Day with your friends, family and fellow PLC members at our tenth annual Lobster by the River fundraiser at Parker Mill in New Boston. For the uninitiated, the event is a traditional New England lobster bake, prepared right on the banks of the Piscataquog River. It’s a truly great way to end the summer. Tickets are $75, and net proceeds benefit the conservation work of PLC.

Summer Volunteers Needed

with No Comments

Summer is a busy time on PLC’s preserves. We have a number of maintenance and improvement projects we are trying to get wrapped up this year, and we could really use your help! Do you have a strong back? We could use your help installing a gate at our Rose Mountain Preserve, and resetting a wooden bridge that was washed out at our Rice Preserve (both properties are in Lyndeborough). We have several projects we hope to complete between now and the fall.
