Continuing the partnership that began with 2017’s Nissitissit land conservation project, PLC and the Town of Brookline are working to place a conservation easement on 439 acres of existing town conservation land known as Hobart-Fessenden Woods. The land directly abuts property owned by the Beaver Brook Association north of Route 130. Combined, the Hobart-Fessenden and Beaver Brook lands comprise over a thousand acres unbroken by roads or development. The town has fee simple ownership of the land, but the conservation easement held by PLC is necessary to ensure that a future town vote cannot change its open space status. An article authorizing the town’s donation of the easement to PLC was placed on the town’s March warrant and passed overwhelmingly.
We are now in the homestretch, but still need to raise $24,000 to complete the conservation easement and baseline documentation, and provide funding for perpetual easement monitoring and stewardship. We hope you will consider a tax-deductible donation payable to the Piscataquog Land Conservancy, 5A Mill Street, New Boston, NH 03070. Please include “Hobart-Fessenden” in the memo line. Contributions can also be made securely online using the button below.
